Yoga!
I went to my first yoga class today! I’ve heard good things about it and my friend has been telling me about all the group fitness classes that the UMBC RAC (Retrievers Activities Center) offers. I’ve been pretty lazy this semester and haven’t gone to the gym so I finally gave in and went. It was great! We did a lot of stretching and it was super relaxing! It was just what I needed after a long day of classes. Anyways, I’m going to these classes more often because they are fun and the best thing is that they are free! They even have belly dance, ab crunch, and cardio box classes!
Alright, I better try and go to bed……this time change (CA to MD) has been affecting my sleep a lot. I honestly can’t fall asleep until 3 a.m.! It’s really frustrating especially when I have an 8 a.m. class three times a week!
Back to School!
So winter break is officially over and now it’s back to classes, studying, and working. I am definitely happy to be back. UMBC’s winter break was pretty long compared to the other universities my friends go to. They are always so jealous that I get a few extra weeks of break than they do. Anyways, I had an awesome winter break. Peru was absolutely wonderful!! I had so much fun there and I really want to go back soon! The only bad thing about winter beak was the fact that I got sick twice. I first got a cold the day after Christmas and it lasted all the way to New Year’s when I was in Peru. A couple days after New Year’s I ended up getting a fever! I ended up taking some medicine and finally got better. Then a couple days after my flight from Peru to San Francisco, I ended up getting the cold again! This was most likely because of the change of weather. Other than that I had a great winter break.
The first days of classes have already passed. The classes that I am most looking forward to are ”America Latina y sus Culturas” (Latin America and its cultures) and 20th Century Art. I know you are probably thinking that my science classes should be the classes I am most looking forward to since I am a science major but I have to be honest, it’s nice to have a break from so many science classes during the semester. Now this semester I am going to have to wake up early every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for my physics class. This is not going to be easy!
Also, I have two professors who want us to call them by their first name. I feel so weird doing this because I’m so used to calling my professors “Dr. ____ or Mr./Mrs. ____”. This is going to take some time for me to get used to but now that I think about, it’s pretty cool that I get to call some of my professors by their first name. : )
So I am looking forward to another great semester at UMBC and I can’t wait to share my experiences with you guys!
Home Sweet Home
Before I tell you about my crazy flight let me tell you what might be the scariest thing that has happened to me at UMBC. So I had a 10:30 a.m. final on Monday. I went to sleep really late and set my alarm to ring at 8:45 am. All of a sudden my roommate comes back to the room at 10:20 and wakes me up (she had her final from 8-10 in the morning). When I looked at the clock, I was absolutely shocked. I couldn’t believe I overslept! I was about to die because for some reason I was under the assumption that my exam was at 10 in the morning. I was freaking out and just threw on some clothes, skipped breakfast and ran to class. On my way to the lecture hall, I realized I would only be a little bit late….long story short I was only around 5 minutes late. At least I finished my final on time! The scariest thing is that if my roommate did not to come back to our room after her final I would’ve missed my final all together! I was definitely not going to let that happen on Tuesday, so I asked my roommate to set her alarm, I set my alarm, and then set my cell phone alarm. I woke up right on time and finished my last finals for the semester. This semester has been great…this was my first semester living on campus and I love it! I am at the same time happy the semester is over, no more studying until the end of January!
So my flight to Sacramento was going well until I reached my stop at Denver. The plane I was supposed to be on had mechanical failure and I had to wait for another plane that was coming from San Francisco. I had to wait an extra 3 hours at the Denver airport until the plane arrived. It was so boring! I finally arrived safe and sound in Sacramento at 2:30 in the morning. Anyways, I am so happy to be here for Winter Break! I finally get to see my mom and the rest of my family after around 4 months! My mom and I are driving down to San Mateo tomorrow to spend Christmas with the rest of the family and our flight to Peru is on Wednesday! I’m so excited! Happy Holidays everyone and Happy New Year!!
OXJAM
One of the clubs I joined this semester is Oxfam. Oxfam is an organization that works with others to try to overcome poverty and suffering all over the world. Well, now they have a chapter at UMBC! Last night was Oxjam, which was a way for us to meet all the members and to eat good food while listening to music. The food was really good….it’s funny, I was just telling my friend how I was in the mood for chinese food earlier that day and all of a sudden I go to Oxjam and guess what they served…chinese food! I seriously needed this break yesterday because I have been so stressed with certain classes lately. One of my professors decides to assign everything to be due this week. We barely had any assignments during the beginning of the semester and then all of a sudden he decides to give us everything all at once. Not fun at all! I got most of the assignments done and thank goodness I have my suitemate who is also taking the class with me, so we help each other out a lot! Ok, back to the point of this blog….Oxjam was really fun last night!
On a random note……it snowed today! Yay! I have been waiting for this for such a long time! Since I almost slipped and fell several times today, I have decided that I really need to buy snow boots. I don’t own a pair because I would never need it in Sacramento but since I’m not used to walking in the snow, I think that the boots will probably help.
Happy Thanksgiving!
It’s finally Thanksgiving break! I have been waiting for this for a long time! I’m finally at my aunt’s house…thank goodness I have family nearby to spend the break with. I can’t wait until tomorrow, I get to help cook! I really like to cook but I haven’t really practiced enough because I never have the time. This time I get to help my aunt cook Thanksgiving dinner. She’s a great cook and she loves doing it so it’ll be fun to help her out. My family doesn’t really eat all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes, like stuffing and mashes potatoes. We always have turkey but the rest of our dishes are Peruvian dishes…so it’s like Thanksgiving-Peruvian style : )
So now that Thanksgiving is tomorrow, that also means Black Friday is coming up! The plan is to wake up really early to go to the mall and shop. I really don’t need to buy much stuff but I like to see all the stuff on sale! I usually plan on waking up really early on Black Friday but it usually never happens. Maybe it’ll happen this year….ummm, we’ll see! hehe! HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!!
