Home Sweet Home

Before I tell you about my crazy flight let me tell you what might be the scariest thing that has happened to me at UMBC. So I had a 10:30 a.m. final on Monday. I went to sleep really late and set my alarm to ring at 8:45 am. All of a sudden my roommate comes back to the room at 10:20 and wakes me up (she had her final from 8-10 in the morning). When I looked at the clock, I was absolutely shocked. I couldn’t believe I overslept! I was about to die because for some reason I was under the assumption that my exam was at 10 in the morning. I was freaking out and just threw on some clothes, skipped breakfast and ran to class. On my way to the lecture hall, I realized I would only be a little bit late….long story short I was only around 5 minutes late. At least I finished my final on time! The scariest thing is that if my roommate did not to come back to our room after her final I would’ve missed my final all together! I was definitely not going to let that happen on Tuesday, so I asked my roommate to set her alarm, I set my alarm, and then set my cell phone alarm. I woke up right on time and finished my last finals for the semester. This semester has been great…this was my first semester living on campus and I love it! I am at the same time happy the semester is over, no more studying until the end of January!

So my flight to Sacramento was going well until I reached my stop at Denver. The plane I was supposed to be on had mechanical failure and I had to wait for another plane that was coming from San Francisco. I had to wait an extra 3 hours at the Denver airport until the plane arrived. It was so boring! I finally arrived safe and sound in Sacramento at 2:30 in the morning. Anyways, I am so happy to be here for Winter Break! I finally get to see my mom and the rest of my family after around 4 months! My mom and I are driving down to San Mateo tomorrow to spend Christmas with the rest of the family and our flight to Peru is on Wednesday! I’m so excited! Happy Holidays everyone and Happy New Year!!

California, here I come!

This week has been absolutely crazy! I had one final last week (Genetics lab) and guess what I got on it…. a B+!! I am sooo happy; I spent so much time studying for that final. Now this coming week is going to be really stressful. I know I mentioned this before…..I have 2 finals back-to-back on Monday and Tuesday! Aagghh! I have my Physics and Spanish finals on Monday & Art History and Cell Biology finals on Tuesday. The good thing is that my Spanish and Art History finals aren’t cumulative. The good thing about UMBC is that they try their best to make finals go by smoothly. The library closes later at night during finals week, at 2 am instead of the usual midnight closing during the weekdays. There is also the Stress Free Zone that takes place during finals….its a great place to unwind, get free food and goodies in the Student Orgs Space in the Commons. I am definitely going to stop by in between studying for my finals! Anyways, my last final ends at 3 pm on Tuesday….. I can’t wait!

Well, I am extremely excited about winter break! I am flying back home to California on Wednesday! I get to finally see my high school friends, the rest of my family, and especially my mom! : ) Oh and here is the best part, I am going to Peru for 3 weeks this winter break! How lucky am I!?! I haven’t been back to Peru in 2 years. I get to finally see my grandparents, all my family and I get to finally meet my niece! This is going to be the best winter break ever!

Since winter break is coming up really soon, that means Christmas is too! I was actually glad to get some shopping done yesterday. I took a break from studying and went to Arundel Mills Mall. I love this mall; it’s so pretty, with really cool stores and the best thing is that it’s really close to campus! Well, I better get back to studying for Physics!

Finals!

I can’t believe finals are here already….this semester has gone by so fast! So, tomorrow is my first final, it’s for genetics lab. I’ve seriously been at the library all day today studying for it and now I’m so tired. You know when you have been studying all day and then you’re brain feels really exhausted, well that’s what I’m feeling right now. I meant to study a lot for it yesterday but that never really happened. I went to my aunt’s house to get my suitcase so I can put all my stuff in it when I have to check-out from my dorm. Oh, and guess what?! I got my first pair of snow boots yesterday! It was snowing last week and I almost slipped so many times…so I figured it’s best that I get a pair. I love them; they are black and the best thing is that they were on sale! Anyways, I think I am pretty much set for my exam and I’ll just continue studying for it tomorrow since my exam is at night. I only have this final tomorrow and that’s it for this week. The bad thing is that I have two finals next Monday and Tuesday! I’ve never had two finals on the same day….we’ll see how that goes! Since finals are here, that only means that winter break will start very soon! Yay, I can’t wait!

OXJAM

One of the clubs I joined this semester is Oxfam. Oxfam is an organization that works with others to try to overcome poverty and suffering all over the world. Well, now they have a chapter at UMBC! Last night was Oxjam, which was a way for us to meet all the members and to eat good food while listening to music. The food was really good….it’s funny, I was just telling my friend how I was in the mood for chinese food earlier that day and all of a sudden I go to Oxjam and guess what they served…chinese food! I seriously needed this break yesterday because I have been so stressed with certain classes lately. One of my professors decides to assign everything to be due this week. We barely had any assignments during the beginning of the semester and then all of a sudden he decides to give us everything all at once. Not fun at all! I got most of the assignments done and thank goodness I have my suitemate who is also taking the class with me, so we help each other out a lot! Ok, back to the point of this blog….Oxjam was really fun last night!

On a random note……it snowed today! Yay! I have been waiting for this for such a long time! Since I almost slipped and fell several times today, I have decided that I really need to buy snow boots. I don’t own a pair because I would never need it in Sacramento but since I’m not used to walking in the snow, I think that the boots will probably help.
