Back to reality…

Thanksgiving break was great but it went by way too quickly! I ate so much food on Thanksgiving and it was all so good. This was my first Thanksgiving spending it without my mom. She spent Thanksgiving with my other aunt and the rest of the family in San Mateo, CA. We were both with good company so that’s what counts and we spoke to each other a lot on the phone throughout the day. Oh, and by the way…I did end up waking up early on Black Friday. I woke up at 6am and went shopping with my aunt and then we had breakfast at IHOP and I ate the best pumpkin pancakes ever!

Now I have to get back to reality…..back to studying and back to work. Work is great though, I can’t complain. I love working at UHS. Everyone there is so nice and helpful. I also feel great that I am making some money on my own and not having to ask my mom for money all the time. I feel so grown up when I get my paychecks, haha! I can’t believe it’s almost December! This semester has gone by so fast! Now, that means that finals are coming up. All right, I better go continue studying!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s finally Thanksgiving break! I have been waiting for this for a long time! I’m finally at my aunt’s house…thank goodness I have family nearby to spend the break with. I can’t wait until tomorrow, I get to help cook! I really like to cook but I haven’t really practiced enough because I never have the time. This time I get to help my aunt cook Thanksgiving dinner. She’s a great cook and she loves doing it so it’ll be fun to help her out. My family doesn’t really eat all the traditional Thanksgiving dishes, like stuffing and mashes potatoes. We always have turkey but the rest of our dishes are Peruvian dishes…so it’s like Thanksgiving-Peruvian style : )

So now that Thanksgiving is tomorrow, that also means Black Friday is coming up! The plan is to wake up really early to go to the mall and shop. I really don’t need to buy much stuff but I like to see all the stuff on sale! I usually plan on waking up really early on Black Friday but it usually never happens. Maybe it’ll happen this year….ummm, we’ll see! hehe! HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!!

A productive weekend?

So I haven’t been that productive so far this weekend. I meant to write my paper and study for my physics exam yesterday but that never really happened. Well, I did end up finishing most of my paper, so at least I did something! haha! I may not have done much studying but I did have fun doing other things. I watched a lot of America’s Next Top Model…I couldn’t help it, it’s always on! Oh, and I also went to the SEB movie on-campus last night. They were showing Rush Hour 3! I have been wanting to see this movie for such a long time and I finally saw it! This movie is absolutely hilariuos!

Anyways, now I’m doing my laundry before I head to the library to study for my physics exam. I think it’s awesome that there’s a website that tells us which washers and dryers are being used at the moment and how much time is left for each washing/drying cycle. It makes things so much easier! This weeked has been fun but now I have to stop procrastinating and study! I hope this plan works! : )

What a week!

So this week has been crazy! Monday was officially my first day as a UMBC Ambassador. It was lots of fun! I helped out with check-in and I was really glad to see so many students and their families interested in what UMBC has to offer. I’m really excited because I also signed up to help out during the next visit day in December! Yay!

I had my Cell Bio exam on Tuesday. I was studying so much for this exam all weekend. I think I did ok…..we’ll see! I barely got any sleep this week thanks to that exam and the Art History quiz I had today.

Oh, and today I get to register for classes! I had my advising appointment last week and we talked about how my schedules will look like for the next semesters if I want to graduate on time. Luckily, this is doable and if I keep on schedule I will graduate in May 2009! I really want to take Volleyball this semester and get one of my PE classes out of the way but bad news, I just checked and it says that there are only 2 spaces left. I still have to wait until 5:30 to register…..I hope no one else registers for that class until then! Now that I think about it, it’s not that big of a deal if I don’t get in because I can always take it senior year.

Tomorrow I start class early, at 8 a.m.! I remember I used to start classes earlier than that in high school and had no problem but now it’s really hard for me to wake up that early for an 8 a.m. class. I’m so used to having 10 a.m. classes everyday. Since I’m taking Phys 112 next semester, I start my day at 8 a.m. three days a week. Oh well, I guess I just have to deal with it!

It’s raining!

The weekend is officially over. So sad! So, it’s really cold in Maryland now. I’m still not used to the cold weather and I know that it’s just going to get worse later this year. The weather in Sacramento doesn’t get that cold over the winter. The worse thing that we get are thunderstorms and people over there make a big deal about it. That’s nothing to me now that I have experienced snow storms. When I used to commute, it was annyoing to have to clean my car and the walkways after each storm but it was a good workout! haha! Last winter I had a scary experience during a storm; I was walking back to my car after my class (I took a class on-campus during winter break) and the storm had just started…..The snow was pouring down so heavily that I seriously couldn’t see where I was going. I couldn’t even see where my car was. I was so scared, and the cold was making my hands and face feel numb. I was freaking out but I finally found my car but I was having trouble finding my keys in my backpack. Long story short, I survived! : )

So, it’s raining now and it was pretty cold last week and I didn’t have any of my coats on-campus. I keep all the rest of my stuff at my aunt’s house so I went to her house on Saturday and got all my coats, scarves, and gloves. She also fed me the best food in the world. It’s called “arroz con pollo” in Peru. It’s this green rice with veggies and chicken. It’s so good! Eating this made me miss peruvian food so much. At least I get more of that during Thanksgiving break which is coming up soon! Yay!

I’m a UMBC Ambassador!!

A few blogs ago, I mentioned that I was accepted into the UMBC Ambassadors program. Well, today we had our first meeting and I’m so excited! I officially signed up for the UMBC Visit day this Monday. I get to help out with sign-up and check-in! I love the fact that UMBC offers so many sessions to help prospective students learn more about what UMBC has to offer. There are many visit days and there’s even a reception day for Hispanic students and an overnight visit day for out-of-state students! Anyways, I’m really excited about what’s in store!!

A day in Silver Spring

I’ve never been to Silver Spring before but I know a lot of people from that area, including my roommate. So, we both went to Silver Spring yesterday and I got to see where she lives. We had a blast! Her mom picked us up and we went shopping in a few shopping centers but had no luck because we couldn’t find anything we wanted or really needed. We also ended up taking advantage of her washer and dryer and did all our laundry, haha! I’m glad I got to see Silver Spring and finally got to know a new place in Maryland. Since we were there practically the whole day I didn’t get much studying done so I am going to be doing that all day today right after I finish writing this blog! : )
